Risk Factors Associated with Early Onset of Sepsis

Background: Neonatal sepsis (EOS) is among one of the leading cause death that usually occurs due to infection in first month life and can be result various maternal neonatal contributing factors. Objectives: To determine factors for early onset neonates. Study design: cross sectional study Period: From 13th April 2019 12th Oct 2019. Settings: units pediatric medicine central park teaching hospital Lahore Bhatti international Kasur. Material methods: After approval from ethical committee total 151 neonates were selected using non-probable consecutive sampling. Neonates both gender who having gestational age >30 weeks with enrolled. Patients had received antibiotics before presentation excluded. 5ml venous blood after proper sterilization was taken all patients sent laboratory WBC count, CRP culture. Data entered pre-designed Performa analyzed SPSS 20. Results: There study, minimum maximum 1 day 7 days respectively mean 3.66±1.88 days. Mean 35.5±2.6 birth weight 2.2±1.4 kg. slight increase female 51% 49% males. Among fever found 64.9%, premature rupture membrane 43%, foul smelling liquor 37.1% meconium-stained amniotic fluid 33.1% prematurity 66.2% low present 64.2%, APGAR score 56.6 % stratified risk but p value not statistically significant. significant prematurity, offensive liquor.
